Getting Motivated

I’d be surprised if you were to tell me you never get bored, distracted or unmotivated with working online. I know I’ve certainly had my fair share of staring blankly at the computer screen doing nothing, losing focus and not wanting to do ‘the work’.

Something I’ve found that’s helped me has been music. I’ve found it helps me plough through the more mundane tasks and or just brighten my day and mood. When I’m more upbeat I tend to be able to ‘get started’ on things that I’ve been putting off such as big projects or even just tidying up my desk or inbox. I have to admit though that I’ve tended to grab music from YouTube a lot and have more than once spent way too much time watching videos when I was supposed to be working with the music in the background!

Working online for myself means there isn’t anyone keeping me in check; no colleagues expecting me to pull my weight, no boss asking me to meet deadlines and no clock telling me when I can and can’t knock off for the day. I’m my own boss but quite frankly, without some of those external factors pushing me along, my productivity has been half what it could be and that’s being kind!

A couple of weeks ago though, something happened that has literally changed the way I work. I found me some kick ass motivation at Blogger Beats.

Blogger Beats was launched at the beginning of May by Nathan Hangen and Oleg Mokhov. To say Nathan and Oleg are an awesome combination is an understatement! Nathan’s cut-to-the-chase style inspires, motivates and moves quickly enough to keep your interest but still at a pace and level of detail to understand the points he’s making. Combine that with Oleg’s awesome mix of music that is uplifting enough to get you moving in your seat but not so distracting you can’t concentrate, and the result is powerful!

What exactly does Blogger Beats offer? Well in Nathan’s words:

Blogger Beats is part motivation, part business, part sleeves rolled up and down to business, part sleeves buttoned and down to business.

Let’s not forget about the awesome, original and unique tunes created by the mixmaster himself, Oleg Mokhov.

All designed to help you get in the zone and be more productive than ever before.

All in all, you’ll get 2 brand new shows each and every week. They’re around 30 minutes on average, and they’re all unique.

Every episode I’ve listened to so far has been awesome and I can’t wait to hear next weeks sessions!

I know I’m not the only one who struggles with getting motivated and staying motivated which is why I’m so happy to be sharing this with you and anyone else who hasn’t heard about Blogger Beats before. It’s just the combination I need to help motivate and energise my work time and I hope it can help you too.

You can try it out for seven days for only $1!

Update! You can now try Blogger Beats for FREE for seven days. Get it here!

Staying motivated and keeping your eye on the end result is so difficult sometimes. I often waste hours reading nonsense on forums or watching hulu while I’m supposed to be working. Sometimes we just need a reminder.

Mike I’m guilty of having wasted hours reading nonsense on forums too. I’m more careful these days with how much time I spend in them and very choosy about which ones.

Having a ‘no go zone’ during certain hours has helped me stay focused too.

What tactics do you use to try and stay on track?

Well, I’m not so good at managing my time unless I have a deadline.

I can relate to that Mike, deadlines are great to have in place although I tend to cram right as the deadline is hitting me in the face, lol.

Thanks so much for the review Michelle, you made my Monday!

Also, in order to make Blogger Beats more accessible, we’ve instituted a 7 day trial for just a penny. If that’s not enough to get people to try it out, I don’t know what is :)

Hey Nathan, thanks for stopping by. :)

I’ve resonated with yours and Oleg’s blogs since stumbling on them a while back and when you guys teamed up to bring us Blogger Beats…well I knew it would be awesome.

Thanks for episode six, I love the fact that you continually challenge the status quo. Looking forward to hearing what you have to say in Thursday’s session!

Another approach that works well and is in direct contrast to listening to music is to simply unplug and get it done.

Both methods are effective. Which is one is best depends on what’s going on in your head at that particular moment.

Thanks for your comment Shawn.

Music usually helps me get the more menial tasks done a lot quicker because I’m enjoying myself more. :) Nathan’s commentary is the component that’s getting me thinking and motivated to raise my game.

Thanks for stopping by. Looks like you have some interesting articles on your blog…in particular the ‘dig for gold’ post.

Hi Michelle,

It was great to get your email today for this post!

I totally agree with you. It is so easy to get distracted when working from home. I use to sleep in alot, then do laundry and house cleaning instead of what I was really suppose to be doing. Then at the end of the week I would feel so bad because 7 days had gone by and what did I have to show for it??? I am getting better. I look forward to checking out Blogger Beats for more inspiration and motivation!!

Best,
Darlene

Hey Darlene, I just found this comment in the filter, sorry about that.

I know that awful feeling of looking back after seven days and not really having much to show for it. :(

I see in your comment below that you’re giving Blogger Beats a go which is great! I think you’ll find it helps. I know it’s helping me right now and I’m pretty burned out so if it can bring me back from the brink it can help anyone I’d say. ;)

Hi Michelle,

No worries! I’ve been following your blog since last year and enjoy receiving your email notes. Sorry to hear you are feeling burnt out. Hopefully blogger beats and other things will help you to get your motivation back :-)

All the best,
Darlene

Very interesting idea! I love listening to music too though probably not the same kind of music. I generally have the radio on as it makes me feel a bit more like the are other people around me lol. It really helps though. Very occasionally I need to work in pure silence but that doesn’t normally happen.

MichelleNo Gravatar (363 comments) Reply:

I understand what you mean about the radio Ruth. :)

I like the way you’ve shared a lot of your goals on your blog, that surely helps motivate you as you know we’re all waiting to hear about your progress. ;)

I subscribed to Blogger Beats yesterday, and I’ve listened to the first two episodes already. Great resource. I haven’t had any trouble taking action when listening these. Thank you for recommending! :)

Fantastic Mitro! Glad you’re trying it out and taking action. ;)

I hope you enjoy episode six as much as I did…’relief’ is one word that sums it up for me. Nathan really gives us permission to do things differently, I find that very freeing and uplifting.

Excellent post Michelle!

I signed up for Blogger Beats yesterday! Very inspiring recordings. I plan to spend some quiet time listening to the recordings to fully understand their messages.

Awesome Darlene! It is inspiring isn’t it. :)

There are some real gems in Nathan’s perspective on things and I’ve listened to a few of the episodes again when I’ve had more time to focus to get the most out of them.

Enjoy!
