Keyword Tools – Analysis Paralysis

Keyword Tools – Analysis Paralysis

confused1Where have I been? It’s been almost a month since I last posted! Well let me tell you a little bit about what I’ve been up to. This is a new blog and specifically built to help you navigate online money making so you don’t lose your shirt. I’ve been sitting back in a few forums and observing more than taking part. One thing I’ve noticed is there are a heck of a lot of people wanting to make money online but not many of them actually are. I have a theory why and some of it comes down to keyword tools.

So you might be thinking I’m about to share with you the latest, greatest, beat all your competition hands down keyword tool right? Well sort of but not really. First of all let me get this out of the way; my number one keyword tool of choice is the FREE Google keyword tool. Ok, phew, aren’t you glad you don’t have to buy anything? Aren’t you glad you can just go use it and get started right away? Well I would say yes but would you?

There are so many keyword tools on the market I’ve simply lost count. This one is free in beta, that one is paid for the ‘works’, the other is free but it doesn’t do the job, another says this number, another says the opposite number. The amount of tools available has driven what I see as a ground swell of analysis paralysis. So many people are so busy analyzing all these available tools that nothing much is getting done and when nothing much gets done then there is not much money!

And this is not just limited to keyword tools! No, there are article submitters, social bookmarking tools, wordpress plugins, best themes, best SEO, best link exchange, best affiliate program. On and on it goes. Now of course you need tools! Gosh I have an entire site dedicated to tools for blogs but what I hope to do in this post is remind you that whilst you are analysing everything to the enth degree there are plenty of people who’ve jumped in and are cutting their teeth by ‘doing‘.

Yes there are a mountain of tools that can be of use to your online efforts, I’m not saying they aren’t good or even of great value but try to keep yourself in check and get on with something rather than getting into analysis paralysis trying to be sure you don’t use the wrong tool! You have to make a decision at some point about what you invest in…there isn’t a perfect solution, and not all tools suit everybody anyway. What suits me the most is if it works and it’s free; Google has covered off my keyword tools checklist nicely and I highly recommend it. Many Internet marketers use the free Google keyword tool; remember just because something’s free doesn’t mean it’s not valuable.

Are you getting caught up in analysis paralysis?

    Michelle,

I agree this a great tool and it is free to boot. Can you share how you are using it to make money?

I have used it to identify keywords with decent search volume and a low number of competing pages. Then created pages targeted to these keywords.

Whala! These pages start to rank on the front page of google.

Now I just need more products related to the keywords.

    Hi Rob,
Like you, I’ve been using the Google keyword tool to find keyword phrases that have high search volume. Competition analysis then determines whether or not I use that keyword on my site/s. The other thing I use the Google tool for is to identify high Adword cost phrases. What that means is if I have Adsense on a site then if I choose keywords that are high cost there is more chance that the Adsense payout will be higher. This is what i like to call ‘getting the most bank for you buck’ or in this case, most monetary return for the time invested into the website content. I’ll look at creating a post on the entire sequence in the future as I’ve had a couple of people request that now. Thanks for stopping by.:)

    Hi Michelle,

I totally agree. All these tools offer different results. I had the trial version of Market Samurai, which is great by the way, but found that I was getting zero results for words that were getting a lot of results using the Google Keyword tool. They’re definitely a mixed bag.

One free tool I find useful is Traffic Travis that lets you analyze a page for certain keywords and will give you a score based on keyword desity and so on. I haven’t tried the keyword search part of it yet though.

I’ve been using a new tool for keyword research that has really helped me, especially when I am writing a blog post. It’s a little plugin from Wordtracker called SEO blogger. It allows you to do quick analysis of keyword as your write your post. It’s a Firefox plugin.
