Make Money From Home Today
Posted on 16. Jun, 2009 by Michelle in Work From Home Online
When you first started out looking for ways to make money from home do you remember how much you wanted to earn and why?
I do. I wanted to earn enough income from home so I didn’t have to return to work and leave my baby. Today my goal is on replacing my husband’s income so he doesn’t have to work outside of our home either, but why?
Well the why is what inspired this post actually. Almost every day my little boy cries as he watches his dad drive off to work. His tiny hand waves, and he murmurs a “Bye bye Daddy.”
Children are often the reason that people seek to work from home but it’s certainly not the only one. There are the typical things such as hating either the boss, the job, the traveling, the poor pay or all of the above. These are all good reasons to want to work from home, there really is nothing like working in your pajamas and being able to hug your children when ever you want to. And then there is the other reason; the desperate need for money to make the mortgage or rent repayment, credit card bills, to buy food, gas, electricity, to basically survive and once that’s achieved add on some little extras like a movie night or even a holiday if things go well.
It’s very easy to lose sight of what you’re really trying to achieve once you become submerged in the sea of ‘make money online’ marketing, which often sells the ‘Internet Marketer’s Lifestyle’. Fast cars, private jets, world wide travel and money raining miraculously from the sky all on autopilot or at worse working half an hour a day from your yacht or penthouse via your laptop.
This post is a reminder for you to not lose sight of your goals, the things you wanted to achieve when you first set out. There is nothing wrong with wanting penthouses, half hour work days and the multimillion dollar bank balances, heck I certainly aspire to that BUT if you spend all your time and energy looking for the Holy Grail of passive income that brings in millions in months you could find yourself five years from now with no more money, freedom or goals achieved than you have at this moment. There are ways to build huge amounts of money and passive income streams online, but they don’t happen overnight or without loads of action taking.
So if you’re still back in the starting blocks, not really getting any closer to even your most basic goals then it’s time to focus. There are ways to make money from home today, but only if you’ll settle for the fact you have to do some work! If you need $100 to fill the car with gas or to pay for your children’s swimming lessons, then you can earn it from home in your pajamas, there are plenty of ways! Don’t be afraid to reach some of your initial goals by doing something like writing articles for people. There are very successful Internet marketers who generated their first work-at-home income by writing articles or offering some other type of service. Some of those marketers work very hard to this day and although they might now be making six figures don’t be fooled into thinking that it’s mostly passive income. More enjoyable than a typical job? For sure. More profitable than the average salary? Absolutely. Flexible and mobile? Yes. Hardly any work? No! Of course there are examples where the very wealthy can decide not to work, but generally there is work involved in running businesses that bring in huge dollars.
Try to break down your goals into achievable chunks, remember the why and stay focused otherwise the lure of shiny cars, mansions and millions will send you off track toward the illusive pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. You can achieve big things and it’s from little things that big things grow.
Have you lost sight of your goals or are you on track?

@ Aaron the design is a free WordPress theme by ChiQ, you can find it here. I’ve customized mine somewhat.
@ Lisa I’m glad this post was helpful to you. The big picture can seem hard to reach but the old saying ‘eat an elephant one bite at a time’ really will get you there. I just signed up for your free report, great job! Joining your monthly membership today! You’re taking action, love it!
@ Sunshine yes time flies! Every day goes by and I ask myself, what did I do to work toward achieving my goals today…asking a question like that eventually brings better answers as it leads to giving up on fluffing around and instead taking loads of meaningful action.
@ Rebe like a still river, you can plod along in it but once that river has a current you can you use that to move forward more quickly. Building momentum is just as important for your earnings as it is your motivation. You hit the nail on the head! “Learning, testing, learning, testing.” Most people don’t bother with the testing part, you’re many steps ahead.

Thank you for reminding me that it’s from little things that big things grow! I always look at the big end picture and think how will I EVER get there.
BUT then great posts like this remind me to focus on the small, actionable items that I need to do each and every day to get me to that end goal.
Thanks!

Hey Michelle,
Were you talkin’ bout me?
Just kidding. I saw myself in your intro especially the part about ‘5 years from now’.
Time goes by so fast and before you know it, if one isn’t focused and gaining real momentum forward in this business, they’ll have absolutely nothing to show for it.

Great post, Michelle.
Although I wouldn’t be considered a HUGE success of earning a replacement income online, after all it’s only been a year since my online adventure began, I am encouraged and plod along learning, testing, learning, testing.
Helps having people like YOU feeding us good info!
Continued success and may your goal for replacing your hubby’s income happen sooner than later.

Michelle,
Can you give us some insight as to what your major online income streams are and how you plan to bring your husband home.
Thanks, Robert

Sure Robert.
The three main areas of income are sales of my own products/services and selling virtual real estate.
Other income is derived from AdSense and commission on products I promote as an affiliate.
My husband has several blogs too although they could be earning a lot more but his time is limited as he works full time.
To bring my husband home…..doing more of the things mentioned above plus launching membership site/s. Wish me luck.

Boy, that sure is a nice view from your living room, Michelle!
Focus, or lack thereof, can be stone we stumble on in so many things in our lives. Sometimes it’s so easy to lose sight of our goals when we’ve got our heads buried deep in our websites. Every once in a while I get inspired by seeing my stuff show up in the serps, and of course, getting the input from CWJ is a real help, too.
Patience, time, and dedication are key factors. Probably a lot more, but these three sure are the most troublesome to get a handle on.

Hi Michelle,
I have heard and read a lot about Site Flipping but haven’t tried yet. After reading your post I want to give it a try but at the same time the higher fees by SitePoint that you mentioned in your post, is making me think twice.
Anyway, thanks for the great post.

Hey Michelle,
Great post! Setting goals is vital to success in any field, and a bit of old fashioned hard work doesn’t hurt of course. Hopefully your own hard work will soon pay off and you’ll have your husband home with you!

Hey Michelle
Great words of wisdom in your post.
Where you said “…break down your goals into achievable chunks, remember the why and stay focused…” resonated with me, as this is exactly the phase I am in.
Learning (but know when to know you have enough lessons in your toolkit), application of those lessons, create systems, rinse and repeat. Also the mantra to maintain focus, and more specifically focusing on the 20% of effort that produces 80% of the output (80/20 rule). Leverage, leverage, leverage!
Thanks for the quality post
Kieran

Nice to see you here Kieran.
Ahhh, you said ‘create systems’, that is one of my most favorite ways to work at things. Finding systems to repeat really can make the difference between being able to scale things or not. I like your thinking.
Thanks for stopping by.

Making money on the internet is a lot more competitive than when many of the ‘gurus’ made it big. I followed the discussions of the students of one ‘make big money’ course that proposed throwing a bunch of CPA offers against the wall to find the one in 10 that was profitable. At best, it takes a sizable investment to succeed in that risky approach. Several of the students ended 1000s in the hole.
I understand web site article and sales letter writers are in demand anyone with a solid set of native English grammar skills (better than mine) can probably secure some moderate laying freelance jobs. One way to teswt your abilities would be to write a couple of 500 word articles and see if associatedcontent accepts them. This article service directly pays about $5 an article

@Jake I don’t believe the market is too competitive to have to resort to writing jobs if that isn’t what someone desires. Of course there are more players now but the Internet is so full of opportunities it’s mind blowing.
I know several people who make money from submitting articles to associatedcontent, nice if that’s what one has affinity with. For me, writing articles on topics that are not my passion is like torture so I stay away from this type of online money making. It does suit a lot of people though and or if you can outsource the writing and still make money then that could work too.
I think I might know what program you’re talking about where people lost thousands. I still think that although that lesson was a big one, a lot of those people will be much the wiser for it.
Thanks for your perspective I love hearing the viewpoints of my visitors.
