I remember when I first started looking for a way to make money online, all I found was scam after scam after scam, however over the last couple of years there has been a shift in the type of ‘make money online’ methods online. And it is has been a very good shift, one towards credibility and trust from more and more Internet Marketers providing value.

Michelle you are one of the new breed of trustworthy marketers, and I look forward to your posts and ultimately your fantastically well written products.

If you stick at an idea and don’t give up on it – it will work, the formula for making money online is not a difficult one to follow, but the key is to take action on your ideas, which is sadly, something that the vast majority of people don’t do.

Just red your $2000 dollar ebook; you are spot on saying that those scam hypes are normally the ones newbees go for. When I was a newbee, same thing happened: I almost bought some software that would rank me number 1 in Google.

Then I sat down and thought: if 2 people buy this software and target the same keyword, how can they both be on number 1…

Like you say: people should do a lot of due diligence on whom you get advice from. Unfortunately newbees have no experience and can still believe in the get rich quick schemes. The not so newbees know that working hard makes hard earned money. And the gurus know that leverage is king.

@Edie I do subscribe to the ‘get what you pay for’ mentality in some instances but at the same time I’ll do a lot of due diligence on who I’m getting advice from whether it’s paid or free.

Surveys sure sound appealing; I can see why people gravitate toward them.

@Kent Yes it’s amazing how distracting email can be especially if it’s full of ‘we have just the answer’ subject lines like you mentioned. I am still over subscribed but am close to doing a massive unsubscribe to give my inbox some air. Nice point on focusing on the ‘business’.

@Garth Thanks for your comment, a lot of gold in there. You are absolutely spot on when you say the successful people are the ones willing to keep going and work through problems – just like in any offline business. I had many moments a few years back where I thought it was all too hard and a load of hogwash but I clawed my way through and am glad I did. Thanks for stopping by.

I think a lot of people have a hard time, because they fall for the sales pages that tell them how easy it is going to be, then they find out, there’s a lot of details to work through – - but that’s when you find out how serious you really are about being in business.

My advice to those just starting is, get in and get your feet wet, work through some of the technical details and learn what resources are available to you, get a feel for the different business models and figure out where your strengths and weaknesses are. Then you can select a business model where you can capitalize on those strengths and get help to get you past the weaknesses, and focus on that one business model until you see something through to completion. You don’t have to stick with it forever, but if you don’t complete a project, you’ll never know. I agree, there’s money to made using any of a number of business models. The successful people are the ones willing to keep going and work through problems – - just like in any offline business.

I need to focus more on the business, and the real newbie is even moreso in that position. Thanks!

Where do the majority of my visitors go?

To the Survey Scout affiliate link which is where I found all of these sites years ago.

Go figure.

@Ed I know what it’s like to feel burned. You should read my $2000 report, it’s about a night I got sucked in by hype gone mad. I’ll never ever forget that feeling. All I can say is I’m glad the marketers involved pushed me too far BEFORE I parted with my $2000!

What specific advice are you seeking from a forum? You can often gain a lot from quality blogs in your area of interest and even ask questions in the comments and receive some decent answers from the blog owner and even the community. Josh Spaulding gives away a lot of great advice on his blog and in his free ebooks.

In an information society, sometimes you don’t know what you are looking for until you “find it” and that takes two things – time and effort.

Knowing what do do with the information is another thing but creating an action plan, taking the plunge, adjusting to any pitfalls and being persistent is paramount.

Reading between the lines one message that stands out is that every person has to discover their unique skills and interests to harness the powerful opportunities on the web. They have to discover what they want to do and then do it well.

In the end, I value QUALITY over everything. Creating something simply for me to benefit does not add value to the web. Create something that contributes to the world and your audience and choose multiple methods of monetization to build a safety net.

I’m at the stage still of having been burned by this overhyped product or that. The problem is the time one spends checking out garbage, but I guess we’re talking learning curve.

I’ve heard you speak of wrong information being peddled on forums, so as an extra thing here, if you can think of non-subsription forums where that is less in evidence maybe you tell us here?…

Anyway, I offer people a heap of ideas on how to make money. Hundreds in fact, but the number 1 thing that people WANT is to make money with no effort. and surveys fulfill that illusion.

I have tried telling people the chances of making any real income from surveys are slim to none, and they are better off spending their time building real businesses online.

But people don’t want to hear it. I tried for ages to sell them products that would actually help them in their pursuit to making money from home. But they wouldn’t buy them.

All they want it surveys, so I eventually gave in, gave them what they want and now I make about $100 a day diverting them to a survey site.

Some people just can’t be helped.
